Introduction to Atmosphere

- Atmosphere: A blanket of
air containing different gases surrounding the earth is called atmosphere.
- Structure of
the atmosphere: Atmosphere is dividing in to the following layers. Each layer has
its own physical characteristics.
- 1) Troposphere: It is the lowest layer of the atmosphere.
- Its average height is
approximately 12km.
- Most of the weather phenomena
take place in troposphere.
- The height of Troposphere at equator
16km and on poles 8km.
- The place above the earth surface
where the process (Decrease in temperature) stop is the upper boundary (end) of this layer called tropopause.
- 2)
Stratosphere: Stratosphere
is the second-lowest layer of the Earth’s Atmosphere.
- Its Average height of this layer is 48km.
- Ozone which is an important gas is found here.
- 3) Mesosphere: Mesosphere,
present above the Stratosphere.
- Its height
is about 80 km.
- It is the coldest
layers of the atmosphere.
- Its upper limit
is called Mesopause.
- 4) Thermosphere: It is the extended from 80 km to the final boundary
of atmosphere.
- Light
gases are found in this layer.
- The study
of physical characteristics of the atmosphere is
called Meteorology (علم موسمیات).
- The main cause
of climate change is rapid increase in population.
