Environment and Feeding Relationship

  • Everything which is present in the surrounding of a living organism is called its environment.
  • Ecosystem is the study of relationship of living organisms with their environment.
  • Ecology is the study of relationship of living organisms with their environment.
  • Ecology is also called as environmental biology.
  • Ecosystem is the basic functional unit of environment.
  • Ecosystem is the basic unit of ecology.
  • Ecosystem is always composed of two components.1)Biotic component 2) Abiotic component
  • Biotic component: Those components which include all living organisms present in the ecosystem i.e. animals and plants.
  • Abiotic component: Those components which include all nonliving materials present in the ecosystem like water, soil, light, air, wind etc.
  • Ecosystem works by constant exchange of materials between its biotic and abiotic components.
  • Biotic components can be dividing in to producers, consumer and decomposers.
  • All the green plants are producers.
  • Animals are called consumers.
  • Microorganisms like bacteria and fungi are called decomposers.
  • Those animals which directly feed on plants are called herbivores (primary consumer). Example cow, goat, rabbit, deer, elephant, etc.
  • Those animals which eat flesh of herbivores are called carnivores (secondary consumer). Example lion, tiger, spider etc.
  • Those animals which feed on secondary consumer are called omnivores (tertiary consumers) Example sparrow, human being, bear etc.
  • In an ecosystem many animals and plants live together. The actual place where they live is called their habitat.
  • Those animals which active during daylight are called Diurnal animals.
  • Those animals which active during at night are called Nocturnal animals.
  • Sunlight is absorbed by producers (plants) and they make food for the whole ecosystem. Then this energy is transferred to animals (consumers) and finally decomposer releases this energy by decomposing the dead organism. This flow of energy is called food cycle.
  • The place of an organism in the food chain is called trophic level.
  • The combination of many food chains is called a food web.
  • Tundra is an environment that is very cold and windy.
  • Tundra environment is treeless.
  • An adaptation is a way through which an animal’s body helps it to survive or live in its environment.
  • Migration is the movement of animals to far-away places.
  • Hibernation is a state of inactivity in animals during winter season.
  • Aestivation is similar to hibernation but occurs in some animals during summer or dry period.
  • Camouflage is a way of concealing when an animal blends with its surrounding environment to help it to hide.
