An ion is a charged particle formed by the…… of electron/s.
a) gaining

b) losing
c) sharing

d) both a and b

d

When an atom loses an electron, the resultant specie is called…….
a) cation

b) anion
c) free redical

d) molecular ion

a

Explanation:Cations are positively charged ions. They are formed when a metal loses its electrons. They lose one or more than one electron and do not lose any protons.

Which of the following charge is bear by an ion when it loses an electron and become cation?
a) negative

b) positive
c) unit charge

d) no charge

b

Why sodium ion has positive charge?
a) it has equal number of neutrons and protons
b) it has equal number of protons and electrons
c) it has different number of electrons and neutrons
d) it has different number of protons and electrons

d

What is the number of protons and electrons in the sodium cation (atomic no. of sodium is 11)?
a) 11 protons and 11 electrons
b) 10 protons and 11 electrons
c) 11 protons and 10 electrons
d) 11 protons and 12 electrons

In sodium only no of protons and electrons are same...but in sodium ion protons remain same but electrons become 10 because it losses 1 electron and form cation.. So option c is correct.

When an atom gains an electron, the resultant specie is called…….
a) cation

b) anion
c) free redical

d) molecular ion

b

Explanation:Anions are formed when an atom gains one or more electrons: the gain of the negatively-charged electron(s) results in an overall negative charge.Anions are negatively charged ions. They are formed when non-metal gains the electrons. They gain one or more than one electron and do not lose any protons.
